August 2010: A recent census of the kangaroo population on Red Hill has
recorded 447 within the 375ha reserve. Experts consider one kangaroo per hectare
to be optimum. A second count taken on 7 August 2010 recorded 482. More

June 2010: The next RHR working bee is scheduled for Sunday 4 July from
0900 to 1230. The work site is located between Davidson Trig and Hindmarsh Drive.
It is badly infested with verbascum so there will be enough work there for us
for the next 2 or 3 months. Access is via the gate at the corner of Rusden and
Richardson Streets Garran rendezvous by 0845 if you want to drive (or be driven)to
the work site.

June 2010: Red Hill Kangaroo census - 20 volunteers are needed on 26/27
June to establish a base-line figure from which changes in kangaroo numbers can
be monitored. To do the count we need to form a line across the hill walking about
3km south to north, each count will probably take about 3 hours. People will be
in pairs about 50m apart. The line will be co-ordinated through walky talkies
and mobile phones. Call Michael Mulvaney

1 May 2010: Congratulations and thanks to all those
who have signed a petition (between 500 and 1000), mailed in the slips from the
"Rally for Red Hill" fliers (over 50 to date), or written and emailed
to Ministers, media and to the Regenerators about the Federal Golf Club development
proposal. Please keep up the pressure. It is even more important to save
this woodland as another 121ha of critically endangered Box-Gum woodland is under
threat in the East Molonglo development. More...

April 2010: The May Group activity will be held on Sunday 2 May, from 9am to
midday. In an area between Davidson Trig and Hindmarsh Drive that has become
infested with verbascum. Access is via the gate at the corner of Rusden and Richardson
Streets Garran and the newly installed asphalt Davidson Trig access road If you
wish to drive (or be driven) to the worksite be at the corner of Rusden and Richardson
Streets Garran by 0845. The alternative is quite a long walk into the site. Call

April 2010: The Regenerators volunteers have mapped 55 rabbit warrens on
a section of Red Hill. Canberra Nature Parks Administration will undertake extermination

April 2010: At its monthly meeting of the Woden Community Council Simon Corbell
was unequivocal in stating to the whole meeting that he was opposed to the
Federal Golf Club development proposal, that this was the view he had in 1999
and it hadn't changed. He promised to argue strongly with his labor colleges that

March 2010: Federal Golf Club development comments close on 29 March 2010.
The following organisations have or will lodge an objection Conservation Council
ACT Region, National Parks Association, the Grassy Woodland Conservation Management
Network and Pedal Power. We have also contacted Friends of Grasslands, Canberra
Ornithologists Group, Canberra Field Naturalists, Molonglo Catchment Group and
Hughes Residents Association. Thanks to those individuals that have already lodged

April. We will continue the good work we have been doing in the area between
Hindmarsh Drive and the southern corner of Garran - meeting at the corner of Rusden
and Richardson Streets Garran - see Google
map. We will start at 0830 to avoid the heat of the day and work until around
1200-1230 with morning tea and Easter eggs at 1030 (on a bring your own basis).
The
Group supplies gloves, goggles, weeding equipment and training and welcomes new
participants. Sturdy shoes/boots, long pants and long sleeved shirt as well as
are a hat and water bottle are strongly recommended.
